What are the two large rods with different length screw threads? It seems like they could be used to extend the device however they do not seem to screw into anything. How do I use them?

I'm with Big Al, I'm not sure what you are talking about. After reading your post, I went an looked at the device, and the only thing that was long and a litlle different was the two rods that are part of the basic attachment. Other than that the longest piece was 1 1/2 inches and it has normal threads.
