Once a day, at least two days on , one day off. Most commonly, three days on, one day off, your choice.

Once a day is fine. When you get more advanced you can do it twice a day but there's no real way of knowing whether that will bring faster results or not.

I am new to I would think once a day or you will enlarge it it will be swollen.:)
