The Door Man

This might be best answered by Canuck, but any help from others is greatly appreciated as well.
I purchased the jar-gripping devices and some pipe insulation to produce a jelq-device....the pipe insulation doesn't fit, so I might have to get a larger roll. I did, however, use the jelqing device without the insulation. I noticed some red splotches rather quickly, but there was no pain.
Is it safe to not use the insulation or is it something I really should have on there?
I did 60 reps with the jelq device, and I remember Canuck had indicated that using the device provides a more potent jelq, but I didn't get any burning feeling that indicates a good work out. My penis did feel very tired, however. I was pretty intense in my strength used. Is it ok to not feel a burning sensation?
Also, I'm going to start the beginner 20-25 minute routing....but since I'm using the jelq-device instead of my hands, how many reps should I do as a beginner? 30? 50? 80?
Furthermore, I really want to increase girth....and I'm still suspicous of pills even as a supplement to an exercise program. Will pills (Prosolution) really help increase or speed up gains? There too expensive in my opinion to buy unless they noticably increase or speed up gains.
Last question : Which way am I supposed to jelq with the device? Do I have the device squeeze the sides of my penis? Or the top and bottom. I tried squeezing the sides, but it made my penis twist as I went down the shaft.
