The prostate gland produces a secretion known as prostate fluid that makes up most of the liquid part of semen.

The mucus fluids from the prostate and seminal vesicles (small sacs that hold semen) combine with the sperm to form semen, a thick, yellowish-white fluid that has a distinct odor of it own per individual.

The brake down of this mucus is composed of a viscous, slippery substance that consists chiefly of mucin, water, cells, and inorganic salts and is secreted as a protective lubricant coating by cells and glands of the mucous membranes.
