We all like to go drink a few beers with our pals. We love to go out and have fun. We need to make sure that we are responsible when we drink.
I know that it sucks to think that even during our 'fun time' we have to be careful. Drinking and driving kills a lot of people every year. These are deaths that could be prevented.
Every time you get behind the wheel drunk you risk killing an innocent person. Not only that, but you run the risk of killing yourself too.
Though, if you are dumb enough to drive drunk, perhaps you deserve what you get. Let me tell you a personal experience. This is a very sad story. When I was a kid I had a very close friend.
Let's call my close friend 'Sally'. Sally used to visit her grandma who was my neighbor when I was a kid. Almost every week end she would come and visit. Every weekend I looked forward to playing with Sally. I didn't have many friends when I was growing up.
There weren't many kids around for me to play with. Sally was one of the few people who I could play with. She was a sweet kid. As an older man, I think my view of her has changed. We could play for hours and hours. She was the only girl that I knew that liked to play with toy cars and boys toys.
We used to go outside and play with the dog. We would throw it sticks or run and chase him. She loved that dog. Every time she came to her grandma's house, the dog would run and jump on her almost knocking her down.
I went over to the old woman's house one Friday because I knew that Sally would be coming to visit. I waited around and played with the dog the way me and Sally would. The old woman invited me in and she gave me something to eat while we waited for Sally to come home.
We waited and waited and she never came. It started to get dark and her grandma started to get worried. No one knew what was going on. She tried to call Sally's parents to see if maybe they weren't coming. She couldn't get a hold of them. The dog started to act strange. He walked back and forth and he was howling. It was spooky.
We had to put the dog outside because we couldn't handle the way it was acting. Shortly after taking the dog out a man came that neither of us knew. He came to tell us that there had been a car wreck and Sally had been killed. I was too young to understand what death was. All I knew was the old woman was crying and Sally wasn't there.
The man told us that Sally had been killed by a drunk driver. When the old woman heard this her eyes got big and she became fierce. I knew that whatever was going on wasn't good because the way the old woman was acting.
It wasn't until a few years passed that I understood what happened. My best friend, my only real friend, was killed by someone who was driving drunk. She was dead, she was never coming back.
This one event probably effected my childhood more than any other. I was sad because I didn't know why Sally didn't come around anymore. I didn't know what death was and what it meant that she was dead.
Since that day, I have vowed to make sure that I do everything in my power to see these people who drink and drive get what they deserve. They deserve to be locked away for many years and not be allowed to see the light of day. No one has the right to drive a machine that weighs as much as an elephant while drunk.
You find that hot babe in the bar. She says that she wants to go home with you and you know you will get lucky. If she is drunk don't ride with her. Pussy is great, but she might end up killing a little girl like Sally. Tell her to either order a cab, walk, or find a way home.
If she doesn't, you will call the cops. There are times that we all want to go have a few beers with our buddies. It is a right of passage. Make sure if you do, you either have some stay sober so they can drive home, or find another way home.
Don't drive drunk and don't allow others to do so. |
